Finding The Joy In The Journey

Finding the Joy in the Journey

Yesterday was one of those days. I’m sure you have had one before too. The morning started off pretty good. Liam slept through the night {4 days in a row! woot!}, and Anya and Olivia woke up at 7:30. Perfect start! I had bought chocolate donuts at the store for breakfast… yes, mommy went to the store hungry. Now, donuts are a treat for them. We usually have yogurt in the morning so both the girls were super excited to eat. Donuts are messy! Like really messy, and Liv thought it would be fun to take a chocolate donut bath. Needless to say, we had bath time immediately after breakfast.

Now, the girls needed a bath anyways so this was the perfect excuse to give them both one. Liv had a booger, cream cheese, and chocolate donut stuck in her hair. So I get the bathtub filled up, place the girls in the tub, and sit and watch them play. Liv stands up from playing and announces that she needs to poop. She already did… We evacuate the tub, and Anya asks me over and over what the brown things floating in the water are. I get the tub cleaned, fill it up again and put the girls back in this time immediately washing their hair. Liv once again announces that she needs to poop, but this time I catch it before she does anything.

After their bath I need to feed Liam and change his outfit… again. The girls play with their toys together. When it’s quiet in the house you just KNOW that something is going on… Anya comes over and says that they put a toy down the air vent. Really? What possessed them to do that? Realizing how badly I need to clean our air vent out I pulled a small magnetic shoe out and hand it to Anya.

Liam puked again. This was the third outfit change of the day! I am running out of clothes for that boy. He might just have to spend the rest of the day naked… kidding… ok, so that thought crossed my mind. Next thing I know we have chocolate milk on the carpet. Well, at least it’s not coffee. Is it nap time yet?

One hour of “quiet,” or at least as quiet as two very energetic children can be. Anya asks every 5 min. when she can come out of her room, and Liv throws the books out of her crib. At least I got Liam to take a nap…  Before I know it, it’s time to start dinner! Tater tot casserole is on the menu tonight. One of my girls favorites, or at least that’s what I thought. Uncle Josh stops over tonight to join us for dinner and Shark Tank. Anya decides that she needs to clean her pieces of salad in the water glass. Guess what happens next? Yep, water all over the floor. As I was on the floor wiping up the spilt water I realized what a good thing it was that she spilt her water… I got to wash the floor!

Sometimes you just need to sit back and laugh, and find the joy in the journey. Everyday is a gift and we need to treat it accordingly. My children were given to ME! The Lord knew what I needed when He gave them to me. They have stretched me and pushed me to be the mom that I am today. I praise the Lord for those days that are challenging! It gives me a good test in patience, and makes me rely on His strength to get through it.
